In the book “Of Mice and Men”, by John Steinbeck. This book is set in California during the Great Depression. There are two main characters: George and Lennie. George is smart and intelligent, and Lennie is a gentle giant that is massively gentle. As in, Lennie is so gentle that he kind of has the mind of a 5 year-old. George takes care of Lennie because he is that “special”. Throughout the book, three people stand out the most in the book. These people are: George, Lennie, and Candy.
George is most like us. He can be related the most to us because he is like the average man who has to work hard for his keep. Even when he is just like a regular, ordinary guy. George’s relationship to Lennie is like a brother because he spends that much time out of sympathy or pity. He has taken cared of him ever since Lennies Aunt Clara passed away. They have been together for forever and they take care of each other while doing odd jobs like the one digging a cesspool in Weed. George sticks up for Lennie and defends him from threats like Curley. At the end of the book, one can tell that George is the kind of person that has a heart of gold and man who needs friendship.

Lennie is like the foolish person in the story. He is George’s best friend and partner. Lennie is foolish but he can bring out the best in people even without knowing right from wrong. He strength is compared to a bull and he helps out around the farm. We can tell that Lennie is okay with death from the start of the book where he kills the mouse because he petted it too hard.
Candy is a man who lost his hand on the farm working a machine. He is a poor man with very little money. Candy had a dog whose name was not given due to two reasons. The first one was because it was thought of as a possession. Similar to how Candy is one to the farm. The second one was because it was not important enough.
