Organizational Behavior, Terminology, and Concepts
Organizational behavior, organizational culture, diversity, and communication are important concepts and terms, which are prevalent in the success of companies today; Community Health Center is no exception. This paper will define and evaluate the above terms and concepts as well as provide examples of each term and concept and will explain how each relates to Community Health Center (CHC).
Organizational Behavior
Organization behavior has a strong effect on a company’s performance. To understand the effects organizational behavior has on a company, management must first understand what organizational behavior is. Organizational behavior “is the study of human behavior in organizations” (Schermerhorn, Hunt, & Osborn, 2008. p. 5). Put simply, “organizational behavior is concerned with the study of what people do in an organization and how their behavior affects the organization’s performance” (Robbins & Judge, 2009. p. 11). Human resources management (HRM) is the department responsible for organizational behavior. HRM “deals with formal systems for managing people at work” (Bateman & Snell, 2009, p. 354). HRM maintains everything that relates to the job for example, employee turn-over, absenteeism, and employee interactions.
Through organizational behavior, management at CHC can identify areas within the organization that need improvement for the development of an employee’s quality of life at work. To identify the areas for improvement, the director of human resources distributes a company survey once a year. The survey allows employees to rate the environment in their specific department as well as the company anonymously. Human resources use the information to implement changes to improve morale, motivate employees, or determine if employees desire more training. As a result of the survey, once a year, CHC hosts an Employee Appreciation Day in an effort to boost morale within the organization. The...
