Organizational Behavior Terminology and Concepts Paper
An organization could best be described as a social unit of people that are strategically set to chase a united goal. Together the organization displays structure, unity, and teamwork. The teammates within the organization build relationships, and perform different functions and responsibilities corresponding to their position. What make an organization strong are four areas that teammates must respect and take into account are organizational culture, organizational behavior, diversity, and communication.
Organizational culture “is the system of shared actions, values, and beliefs that develops within an organization and guides the behavior of its members” (Schermerhorn, Hunt, & Osborn, 2008). It could also be defined as a company’s character. There maybe tones of different companies and businesses that each have different cultures. Most visibly the culture could be seen from the personal happiness of a company’s staff. Fortune magazine publishes each year the “100 Best Companies to Work For.” Organizational cultures do not only affects the employees but also how management works and how effective the company goals are met. Great companies promote organizational value, which is the ideas, belief, and expectations of the company goals. A great example of a company that displays positive culture is Google Inc. In 2009, Google was ranked fourth out of one hundred companies for best places to work (Fortune, 2009). Google goes the extra mile to provide great benefits to its staff and promotes employee value by encouraging each member to contribute new ideas. The result of this is Google constantly pushing out new web products, communication tools, and rising stocks prices.
