The simulation “Managing Across the Organization” (UOP, 2008) covers several key concepts that were elaborated on in our text. Throughout the simulation there were several issues that arose, from which; one must determine the approach most likely to resolve these issues. The simulation and text readings gave illustrations of organizational structure and culture, influence of power and politics, resistance to change, and organizational success.

Organizational Structure and Culture
Good Sport is a manufacturing company of fitness equipment in Coral Springs, Florida. Founded by Jason Poole, a former pro basketball player, the company has remained small and efficient with a divisional organizational structure. The organizational structure can be referred to as a “simple structure” (McShane & Von Glinow, 2005) because there is minimal hierarchy with all management employees reporting to the CEO. Employees are grouped into four departmental roles with each department responsible for their individual work functions. Good Sport's corporate culture is one of respect, dependency and responsibility. Each department is specialized as to their corporate function; single Vice Presidents head each department; longevity of employees is evident of good corporate values; communication lines run up and down and across the organizational chart; promotions are granted for work performance not position postured; and respect for departmental heads is evident through corporate decision making. The organizational structure and culture are reflective of a small networking organization following the direction of one leader/owner. Growth and cohesiveness within the company is in part due to CEO, Marvin Wallace, who brought focus and dimension to the organization.
