In the context of preparedness, proficiency, progress, and ultimately success, order is superior to chaos. Order lends itself to efficiency, clarity, and direction which all serve as ingredients to momentum, morale and functionality. Chaos meanwhile reflects dysfunction. Chaos fosters deviation and often times manifests itself as failure in an undertaking. When it comes to a work environment, the systematic infrastructure geared towards achieving order is the underlying organizational structure. A well functioning organizational structure facilitates productivity and effectiveness, thereby maintaining the order. A breach and breakdown in organizational structure short circuits systems and processes within a company, and can deteriorate motivation and morale, can distort goals and values, and will eventually cause a business to deviate from its course. Chaos takes over and chokes an entity off from its purpose and promise. As it escalates, chaos becomes the precursor to eventual failure. Where by order is the rhythm and pulse of success, chaos is the flat line.
Organizational behavior theories stand as the cornerstone of sound organizational structure. Impending decay of an organization’s structure takes root when these basic, fundamental theories become compromised. As this practice of compromise persists, the corporate environment becomes more and more conducive to chaos and failure. The impact and magnitude of failure are even more egregious when leadership and management are the primary and willful catalysts in the obliteration of organizational structure and the total disregard for basic organizational behavior theory principles. All of these factors – leadership running amok, departure from sound organizational behavior theory, and breakdown in organizational structure have served as precisely the formula for some of the most corrupt, high profile, and sensationalized scandals in modern business.
