A Name for Our Soul
During my developing stages of adolescence, to my current status as a freshman in college, I have been reading an entertaining cycle of books known as the “Inheritance.” The three books that have been published so far have been very intriguing and all of which are founded in the fantasy genre. The book is about an evil empire that rules the land and a young boy and his dragon that are the only hope of repelling tyranny. The books are full of magic, spells, medieval brawls, and numerous fantasy races such as dwarves, elves, and a personalized custom of orcs; known as the urgals. The action sequences that take place in the stories all consist of magic dueling, which is done with the “Ancient Language”. A caster would speak words of magic and develop spells but the most intriguing concept of the magic in the “Inheritance” cycle is the art of true names. During magical duels, if a magician ever gained the knowledge of his opponent’s true name then he could take complete control over them.
This is how the book makes a relative statement that has a moral for real life circumstances. In the book a person’s true name is the complete definition of their personality.
