Taking up responsibilities is an uncertain action to any people or groups. When an individual cannot face the reality, the most direct response is passing the buck. Governments, unfortunately, have to be accountable for the reality, but they can judge the extent due to different situations. Therefore, today’s governments, undoubtedly, are accountable for the injustices in the past and both fiscal compensation and mental compensation should be given to the people who were suffered from those past injustices. In addition, not only does compensation recover the past pains, but it also maintains a government and a nation’s image.The most horrible tragedy that caused by the injustice of the government should be the Holocaust which was done by German Government. Not only did German soldiers kill numerous Jewish people, but they also caused mental suffering in survivors’ minds. How can Germany make up those terrible mistakes that are beyond retrieve? German Government gives the whole world a satisfactory reply. In 1970, German Chancellor Willy Brandt kneeled in front of the monument of Warsaw Jewish martyrs. He faced 60 million Jewish souls of the dead that were done decades of years ago. His action, however, was unmeditated and voluntary. Undoubtedly, this was an apologetic guise and Brandt represented the past government which made the mistake and apologized for the injustices in the past.In fact, Brandt did not have any responsibilities for the past mistakes but he shouldered the responsibility and obtained the respect of Poland and many other countries. 25 years later, German Chancellor Kohl did the same thing and reiterated the regret of the government and the country. In addition, many German companies such as Siemens, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen provided compensation fund nearly 5 billion dollars in order to make atonement for the people who were persecuted by Nazism.
