It was late in the afternoon; I was over at my Auntie’s house with some family members. I was with my mom, cousin, sister, and brother. My cousin was sitting on the couch. I saw the remote and I turned to a channel to see if Law and Order was on. My eight-year-old cousin Sean started to shout and yell, Jennifer turn the TV back. I said, “What do you want to look at?” He said, “Family Guy.” It was that I realized that, children are hooked on these cartoons that are showing and telling racist joke as well as sexist jokes. I sat down looking at the episodes with him. In the Family Guy some of the main characters are: Peter the dad, Lois the mom, Cleveland Brown, who is another resident that lives down the street, Mi-Mi the sister, Chris a friend, and Stewie Griffin. This special episode that I was watching was about Stewie, a one-year old baby with a single goal and that is to have power and control over everyone. Stewie and Peter were at the mall one day with his neighbor Cleveland Brown. Peter said, “hey, son look at the back”, meaning look at that butt. Stewie went into the other store and said to the girl look at that back. It was then that Mr. Brown came in and said, wow if I was a black man I would be in jail right now”, for looking at that nice women. The next day, Sean and I had gone to the store to get some soda for the dinner we were making that night. We had arrived at the Jewel. We were walking in the isles when Sean said, “baby look at that back”. But he said it in a quiet voice. Never the less, I went back on to tell his mother about what had happened in the store that day. All she said, “Well, its time out for you”. I went up stairs, and said, “Why did you say that?” he replied back. Stewie said it. I explained to him that Stewie is a cartoon and this is real life.
