Written Assignment Midterm
Information technology (web 2.0), has helped me in my educational goals by being able to take online courses. I find it very beneficial that I can obtain my degree all from the comfort of my living room. If I were not able to take online classes, I probably would not be able to attend college. Serving in the United States Navy I have a very hectic schedule, with very little down time. I would not be able to go to a college and sit thru college courses, because I do not work a set schedule. With the rapid changes in technology I am able to receive the same education as students who attend regular classes, at a set pace, that allows me to complete my work and take the classes that I need to obtain my degree. The way that the online class works is similar to a classroom setting. Online, I have a professor with classmates, in which we all interact with one another. I complete my assignments that are given by a certain time frame and submit it to my professor. In return the professor grades my work and submits my grades for my review.
I recently took a midterm exam for another class that was proctored. I was able to sit to my table and the proctor was able to navigate on my laptop, all while I watched her on a webcam and she watched me as well. The reason why she had to navigate on my laptop is to make sure I did not have any other applications open on my desktop that were not permitted for the test. Things like this did not exist years ago. Who could ever imagine that technology would change so much, that a person can see what I am doing on my computer, to their computer.
Web 2.0 has helped changed the way we learn and interact online in a positive way. Not only can I interact with students and my professor through a discussion board, but I can also view and share videos that has been uploaded, have chat session with students through email, and even video chat to get help with work assignments.
