A performance management system helps companies keep track of their employees and help them progress forward when it comes to performing their job. The main strength in my organization’s performance management system is the fact outstanding performers are recognized and this ultimately helps increase motivation for employees to work harder and receive rewards for high level performance. Another strength of this organization's performance management system is the clarity of the plan of what needs to be done, as well as precise communication to all employees as to what needs to be done in order to ensure all organizational goals are met, which ultimately helps increase employee moral when they feel like they contribute to a bigger picture. One of the main weaknesses of the performance management system is the fact that the organization does not monitor employee’s progress on a daily basis. Another weakness comes from the fact that the organization does have many opportunities for higher-level employees to help lower employees improve on skill levels that they are lacking. With this, employees can get left behind when it comes to staying ahead of the market relating to skills they need to perform their job.
In this organization, senior management provides instruction and direction for lower management and in turn lower management uses this to monitor on full time and part time employees. The system is updated weekly with standards that must be met on a store level and employee level. So weekly the manager will provide feedback for each employee with expectations for the store and the individual on what they need to improve their standards. I believe this is somewhat successful because they strain the imporatance of behavioral issues and how they must be learned in order to be successful at the job.
