Should I wear my favorite Bob Marley hoodie today? Or should I wear my Led Zeppelin shirt? The answer depends on what my senses indicate. Is it cold? Or is it sunny outside. On a daily basis people use all their senses to guide themselves through day-to-day experiences. Touch: what temperature is it, sight: observing the sky to check out if it is sunny or on the contrary, cloudy, Smell: does it smell like moist dirt? Auditory: What have I listened on the news? Smell, touch, sight, taste, and hearing make up the five senses. People tend to guide themselves completely by their senses, what they lack to understand is that our senses are not always reliable. How do we know that what we are seeing is actually there? How do we differentiate between a dream and reality?

Everyone around the world rely on their senses to provide them with information about their environment. Senses create awareness; through them we keep ourselves safe. For example, simple kindergarten lessons involve all five senses. Look both ways when crossing the streets. Honking may indicate a car is coming with great speed towards a pedestrian so he should stay on the sidewalk, smelling smoke points out that the person forgot to get the pop tarts out of the toaster. Senses help people stay safe, but is it correct to trust our senses without hesitation? Phrases like “seeing is believing?” and “a picture is worth 1,000 words” are used everywhere in news, shows, and applied by the actual people. These famous lines rely solely on our senses meaning they are not always true. We tend to see things according to our beliefs. In some religions witnessing a women wearing shorts and a tank top is offensive, while in others it is seen as completely normal. The way we perceive things depends on how strong we feel about them.
