Performance Management Plan
 
Clapton Construction is a medium sized organization with 650 employees that are based in Detroit, Michigan. They have an annual net revenue of $10,000,000 and are looking to expand their business into Arizona. We have assisted them with completing their research on employment laws in Arizona and are now ready to help them create a performance management plan, which is much needed as their company continues to grow. According to Berkeley HR, Performance Management is defined as, “Performance management is an ongoing process of communication between a supervisor and an employee that occurs throughout the year, in support of accomplishing the strategic objectives of the organization. The communication process includes clarifying expectations, setting objectives, identifying goals, providing feedback, and reviewing results.” However it is also recognized that people tend to confuse the term performance management with performance appraisal when in fact management is a daily endeavor and the appraisal is a tool used usually once or twice a year to measure performance (Cascio, 2012, p.332).
Ensuring that we keep in mind that there is a huge difference between management and appraisal of performance, it is important that a company has a strong plan and approach to how they will address these topics. We are going to assist in creating this for Clapton Construction by addressing a few key elements such as how well performance aligns with the business strategy and also with what they want the overall performance culture to be within the organization. We will start by recommending a job analysis to identify the skills needed by each level of employees, the methods that going to be used for measuring the employee’s skills and competencies, and then identifying how we will address any gaps in skills for the employees.
