Personal Reflection Paper
The purpose of this essay is to inform the audience about how I will halt the invidious comparison and how I will recognize strategies that I am using to block the signal of vicarious traumatization in my life. Also, how as a human services professional I could evade vicarious traumatization in my profession. Finally, discuss what blocking mechanism I can developed to avoid vicarious traumatization in our daily lives.To begin it is important to understand what invidious comparison means. The invidious comparison is when a person is compared with others based on race, sex, religion, or class. This situation can cause many problems in our society and have a negative effect on people when they are aware of the comparison is being done. In making such comparisons, it not only harms the compared person, but also, their comparator is also affected, and this causes a serious problem in our society. Some of the negative effects caused by this invidious comparison can be stress, depression, isolation, and low self-esteem. I believe in order to solve this problem it is necessary that we treat everyone with respect, understanding, and accept the differences that make each of us is unique regardless of their origin. We must understand what our strengths and weaknesses are and how we can solve the problems we face day by day in our society.
In my personal experience, I have been the victim of such comparisons. In all jobs it is well known that there are preferences and distinctions between employees and their employers, and my case was no exception. These comparisons may be intentional or not but in the end, they still exist. In my case one of my previous jobs, I was a victim of this situation.
