Industry Research
You are a senior manager in Global Dynamics, a large consultancy firm.
You have been approached by Big Mines Inc, a global mining company that extracts precious metals from mines in South America and Australia. The Board has built up large cash reserves and is seeking to invest the money to generate some return. They are considering diversifying into mining diamonds by purchasing an existing company, Zenco Mining plc, listed on the London FTSE 350. Although UK registered, it operates mines in Africa.
Task
In the context of eventually deciding on whether to recommend Big Mines Inc goes ahead with the acquisition, you should research the diamond industry. Based on what we have studied in Business Analysis so far, think what sort of information and analysis would be useful. You are not required to produce anything at this stage, just become familiar with the industry. However, thinking about what models you might use later on, e.g. PESTEL, will help direct your research.

Task 1
You have now been asked to produce a formal environmental analysis of the diamond industry that would be relevant to Big Mines plc in deciding whether to purchase Zenco Mining plc. You should use any model or models you consider relevant. Think about both the environment where diamonds are mined and where they are sold. You should prepare the analysis using Powerpoint or similar presentation software.
