Phone Entry
For those of us who can’t afford sixty-thousand dollar Navigaters’ with On Star personal assistance, I introduce to you the poor man’s On Star. Trough following these simple instructions you should never have to worry about locking your keys in your car again.
First, note, in order for this to work your vehicle must be at least a 2002 model or newer with a keyless entry remote. Also, you will need a cell phone and a trust worthy friend or companion who will be ready and able to answer their cell phone at any givin time.
Then, give the keyless entry remote to your friend or companion. The reason for this is so that on the dreadful day you end up locking your keys in the car, rather than calling a lock smith or the sheriff’s department all you will need to do is call your friend with the keyless remote.
Next, you will want to try the poor man’s On Star out on your vehicle insureing everything fuctions properly. Otherwise people will think you’re crazy, watching as you point your cell phone at your car yelling, “open damn it, open”! Just drive a short distance away, maybe a mile or two and pull over.
After pulling over, get out of your car locking the doors behind you. Be sure not to lock your keys in your car during the trial portion of this experiment.
Now, with your cell phone call your friend instructing him/her to point the keyless entry remote at the cell phone while simontaniously pushing the unlock button on the remote.
Lastly, as your friend is executing the previous step you will need to hold your cell phone as close to the remote censor which is usaully located towards the bottom, middle portion of your windshield. When preformed correctly your car doors should magicly unlock and you can brag to your friends and pass this information on to the next poor person.
