I organism that I chose to reference is the owl, now every organism has specific characteristics that make it ideal for it to live in its particular environment. Owls which in essence are birds have adapted to hunt at night. They actually have adapted in lots of ways that make them successful night time hunters. One such adaptation would be that the owls have eyes that are sunken in, which allows the owl to collect and intensify the light which makes it able for the owl to see in the dark. Owls have adapted its eye sight so well due to the fact that a large part of the owl’s skull and brain are devoted solely to its eyes, this proportion is larger than with any other bird family. The eyes of the owl are on the front of its head with the two fields of vision overlapping, in order to compensate for this physical attribute owls are able to turn their heads backwards, allowing it to see all around.
Owls also have very acute hearing which is another special characteristic that they have which makes them excellent night time hunter. They have large ear opening and cochlea which are covered by feathers. In fact one ear is even set higher than the other so that the owl can turn its head to make the sounds intensity equal which allows it to hone in on where the sound is coming from. The feathers have even been adapted to assist in hearing, the owls body feathers on the wings, legs and body are extremely soft so there is no rustling from their movements which could interfere with the noises of the prey.
The digestive adaptations of the owl are also very fascinating for example owls do not chew their food, they swallow it whole or rip it to pieces using their beak or talons. Most birds have a crop which is a loose sac in the throat that stores foods for later consumption owls do not have this. The owl can also produce pellets in order to get rid of indigestible parts of their food. The pellets the owl make is different from other birds of prey due to the fact that...
