Good morning everyone,
I am here today to present to you a speech on Saloth Sar, more infamously known as Pol Pot.

Saloth Sar was born on the 19th May, 1928 in Prek Sbauv, a village located in the Kompong Thom province of Cambodia. Sar was the youngest of seven children, born to a family of middle-class peasants.

Saloth Sar begun his schooling life at Ecole Miche in 1937, a french private Catholic School, and in 1942, enrolled into Norodom Sihanouk High School, in Kompong Cham, of which he graduated in 1947.

In 1948, Saloth Sar enrolled into Ecole Technique in Phnom Penh, where, in 1949 he was awarded a scholarship to study radio-electricity at Ecole Francaise, France. He arrived in Paris in September of 1949.

In 1950, Ieng Sary, a companion of Sar’s arrives in Paris, and introduces Sar to leading Khmer intellectual, Keng Vannsak. Between 1950 and 1951 Sar is said to have become involved in a Marxist circle, formed by a small group of Kampuchean students: This group was suspected of being affiliated with the French Communist Party.

In 53 upon his return due to successive failure of 3 of his exams, Sar joined a vietnamese-khmer unit on the Vietnamese Border and becomes a member of the Kampuchean Peoples Revolutionary Party. Sar also meets his soon to be mentor, Cambodian cadre Tou Samouth.

In 56 Sar takes up a career teaching at a private college in Phnom Penh, marries Khieu Ponnary, a teacher. He works secretly as a Communist militant alongside Tou Samouth, Nuon Chea and a few others.

In 1960 21 khmer radicals meet to form the Khmer Workers Party; with the Central Committee consisting of Tou Samouth ( as secretary ), Nuon Chea, Saloth Sar and Ieng Sary, among others. Two years later Tou Samouth goes missing, presumed dead, and after a year as acting secretary of the Khmer Workers Party, and upon departure of Phnom Penh with his two colleagues Ieng Sary and Son Sen due to blacklisting by the Sihanouk government, Saloth Sar is named secretary....
