Well, we're into our 2nd week and I hope all of you are keeping up with your readings.�
I thought I would post some more writing tips to help you in the coming weeks.� Please print these reminders as well as the previous ones I have posted in the announcements close by when you write.
1.���� �The writing assignments for each week are meant to be written within the context of the reading assignments of that week so please keep that in mind when answering the questions.� I know you may want to write about things you know already but then what would be the point of reading the text material?
2.��� As I mentioned in the announcement in week 2, direct quotes should be used very sparingly if at all.� Your paper should reflect your ideas/analysis/thoughts not someone's words.� So starting with your paper due Sunday of week 2, there should be no more than 1 direct quote in your paper.�
3.��� Please look over your paper and how it is formatted before submission� You are all doctoral students and grammatical errors or formatting errors should be non-existent at this point.
4.�� Answering the question for each weeks assignment means exactly that, answering the question.
5.� Don't beat around the bush when writing.� I think there is a tendency to "fill in" the page with information that does not really answer the question but �"looks" like you did.� The point of reading the text is so that you can analyze the information, interpret information and draw conclusions and implications from them.� In your assignments, it is that analysis, interpretation, comparing and contrasting, conclusion and implications that I want you to write about - not just rewording what is already in the text and putting it in your paper.
6.�� Try to be more specific and precise in support of your arguments.� Please don't be vague and general.� Part of critical thinking is knowing exactly what...
