Not only is poverty an issue overseas in third world countries, but it’s also a major issue here within the United States. Poverty is not an easy aspect of one’s life that they can hide. It is a difficult part of their lives and, for many it is embarrassing for themselves and their loved ones; people do not always choose to live in poverty, although, it is a major problem in today’s society that is fixable. The amount of indigent persons could be down to nearly nothing if people would take the time to notice that this is a dilemma that involves people all over and actually do something to help fix it.
There have been thousands of books published and essays written on the causes and possible fixes of poverty in hopes of giving them an understanding on ways to help improve the percentage. With all the millions of nationwide organizations out there that begs for food, money, and clothes to be sent overseas to help a helpless child, why not start in your own community? Spend time with the children that come from a family that could use some financial assistance. We all have had our moments when we’ve taken a financial hit and fell into rough times. Relate with them, talk with them, and be there for support even if it’s not financially. Many people have been laid off for months or have lost their jobs without notice when companies get into hardships; however, some of those people never fully bounce back onto their feet, which makes it even harder for them. Because of issues like this, many scholars will have their own opinions or issues regarding poverty.
According to The Census Bureau, the overall poverty rate for 2011 was fifteen percent, meaning that 46.2 million people were living in poverty that year.
