Pregnancy and Childbirth
I can recall many experiences that brought on many emotions. But there’s two major experiences that are very alike and very different all at the same time. I can tell these stories over and over again, because they brought on so many emotions at the same time. The experiences I am referring to are my beautiful yet difficult pregnancies and births of my two wonderful boys, Desmond (6) and Julian (2)
The pregnancy of my first born son was quite the experience. I was only 15 years old and it was the end of my freshman year. I was already four months pregnant when I became aware of my pregnancy. It was very difficult to find a doctor to take me, because I’m epileptic and anemic, which makes me a high risk pregnancy. Eventually I found one, whom I stayed with through both of my pregnancies and births. My doctors name was Dr. Rebecca Gee. My pregnancy had progressed well until about the sixth month. I had really started eating a lot and gained an excessive amount of weight. Due to my weight gain I formed preeclampsia. Which is a mixture of hypertension (high blood pressure), albuminuria (leakage of large amounts of the protein albumin into the urine), and edema (swelling) of the hands feet and face. I also started getting really bad charley horses. I would wake up to stretch out my legs and the pains from the charley horses were so unbearable that I would cry. I had never had one before, so when I experienced it for the first time I yelled for my mom. She would run into my room and rub my legs which only made it hurt more. My preeclampsia got worse through the end of my pregnancy. I went to my doctor’s office for my last doctor’s visit on Christmas eve, and due to the preeclampsia getting worse Dr. Gee chose to induce my labor.
