The value chain is the sequence of business functions in which usefulness (value to the customer) is added to the products or services of an organization. These business functions are: strategy and administration, research and development(R&D), design of products, services or process, production, marketing, distribution and customer service. Strategy and administration spams across all the other business functions. It includes general administrative tasks such as human resource management, legal matters and tax planning. Research and development function is the generation of and experimentation with ideas related to new products and services. Design of products, services or processes function is the detailed planning and engineering of products, services or processes. Production function is the coordination and assembly of resources to produce a product or deliver a service.
