The Proxemics between China and the US

Proxemic behavior depends on different cultures. As we know, China and the US are low-contact cultures, but the US is probably can be called a high- contact culture. There would be some differences between them. It is important for people who immigrate from a different culture. China, the people keep large distance, is my home country. In China, people avoid direct eye contact to strangers, although to smile to other people. Chinese also use less body movement when they converse. Even though we do not touch frequently and avoid displaying emotions in public, everybody always implicative and gentle, includes their family. If somebody has an accident, sometimes they cannot find any strangers for help. Compared to China, people in the US keep smaller distance and use more body movement. Once, I always see people can talk to others; however, they just saw each other. Once, there were some troubles with my friend’s car. The car stopped suddenly on the road. We do not know what happened or what we should do. Gradually, lots of people came and they wanted to help us. In conclusion, the proxemics exist in every country and always different, we need to understand different cultural and it forms different behavior.Proxemic behavior depends on different cultures.
