Short-term and Long-term Consequences of Child Abuse
Introduction
The physical malnutrition and sexual harm to a child leads to a series of events. All types of abuse can cause a long lasting effect on many child. Children are thought of as impressionable, gullible and innocence, getting a child to do what you want is quite easy. Any type of child abuse can affect any child differently than the next. The act of violent is exposed to them, teaching them wrong rather than right carries on with them to their adult lives. Child abuse is usually performed by someone the child knows, whether they are a family member, caregiver or an adult figure to that child. Child abuse has multiple short-term and long-term consequences on the physical, psychological, emotional and sexual that affects their lives.
Physical Abuse
A non-accidental physical damage as a consequence of a child who was punched, beat, kicked, bit, thrown, stabbed, choked, burned, hit or otherwise harmful to a child, that is imposed by a parent, caregiver or other person who was accountable for the child. These damages are considered abuse regardless of whether the adult figure fully intended to offend the child. The child may show signs of physical abuse.
Short-Term Consequences
The child may show unexplained bruises, broken bones, black eye, and burns as a short-term consequence (Child Welfare Information Gateway, 2013). Another sign of physical abuse includes the child sudden change when reacting to an adult or crying and screaming when it is time to go home (Child Welfare Information Gateway, 2013 & Kodner and Wetherton, 2013). Child Welfare Information Gateway (2013) stated “One in every four victims of shaken baby syndrome dies, and nearly all victims experience serious health consequences.”(4)
