Case Assessment Plan: Michael
Introduction
Case Review: Michael, a 50 year old male was committed for 18 months for the conviction of burglary. Upon arrest, Michael tested positive for marijuana and heroin. Michael has five prior convictions of: disorderly conduct, attempted burglary, drug possession, driving under the influence, and receiving stolen property. Michael has never been treated for addiction. Upon reviewing Michael’s case history, a detailed discussion with the supervisory board is needed prior to devising an assessment plan to assess the areas of need that his treatment plan should address. I will use the correct and most appropriate screening tool to include relevant questions covering Michael’s psychosocial history to include a summary of components of the MSE along with additional questions to assess his psychosocial history.
Details of the assessment plan
An assessment plan begins by identifying risk factors which is an event that brings substance abusers to the attention of the people concerned about them (Unit2:Module2, n.d.) An assessment tool known as the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) is designed to address an addiction by focusing on the issues that contribute to or result from the addiction (Unit2:Module2, n.d.). The ASI assesses problems of severity in the areas of a client’s life such as in Michael’s case of medical symptoms, drug and alcohol use, family history, employment and self-support, legal status, social relationships, plus psychiatric symptoms according to the ASI developed by TRI Executive Director, A.
