Increase effective communication with employees
To effectively increase communication with employees I would employ the following tactics. In essence these tactics would be motivational.
Given the fact that people have different learning styles, it is important to attempt to communicate with employees in different ways.
My second tactic would be to celebrate the employees. For example have some kind of reward or luncheon monthly or possibly even weekly. Another good idea would be to build a Hall of Fame honoring employees of the week or of the month. At my first job, Sonic Drive In, we had a chart with everyone’s name on it and if an employee was rewarded for something then the manager would put a star by their name. However in a more professional business, I think that having television monitors that give daily performance and rewards information to all of the employees would definetly increase communication.
My third tactic is to incorporate visual management. I believe this is one of the most powerful ways to communicate and to reinforce a message. When I became the leader of my first job, Sonic Drive In, it had the lowest customer satisfaction score out of the four Drive Ins in Irving, Texas. The main cause was that the employees were not connected to the mission of customer satisfaction. Instead of granting benefits the employees looked to deny them when it should be the exact opposite. As the team leader, I constantly reminded the employees to grant more benefits. For example if a customers order was not correct, instead of charging them for another meal, employees would apologize and fix the order on the house, free of charge. However over time I found that this approach was not sufficient. We then started redesigning the work area to reinforce the message of granting benefits whenever possible. Banners were hung up with this message.
