Quality Improvement Implementation
“Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. is an industry leader in the field of plastic injection molding” (Apollo Group, 2006) producing various plastics for beverage and manufacturing organizations. Riordan is a wholly owned subsidiary of Riordan Industries with manufacturing facilities in Georgia, Michigan, and overseas in China. All research and development occurs at headquarters located in California. Riordan objectives include becoming the leader in research and development, exceeding IS0 9000 standards, customer solution providers, and industry leader of polymer materials. Additional objectives include developing long-term relationships, “Maintaining rigorous quality controls, [providing] innovative solutions, a responsive business attitude, reasonable pricing,” (Apollo Group, 2006) maintaining a team-oriented work environment, supporting employees, and focusing on sustained growth.
Riordan has established several steps in identifying methods of improvement and an essential aspect of the process of measuring success requires a detailed plan. Riordan has established a plan that consists of improving customer satisfaction, employee involvement, and a implementing a strategic plan involving quality, which develops internal and external global operations. Riordan has taken extreme measures for improving quality and this paper discusses the steps necessary for this Fortune 1000 Enterprise to define, examine, and indicate the method used for improvement of quality. This paper’s purpose provides a presentation to the Executive Management Team at Riordan by outlining steps of the quality management process improvement and implementation plan. This paper defines the variation identified in the selected process and explains the process of identifying and controlling variation as an integral aspect to Total Quality Management (TQM).
