As I sit here taking a drag off of my cigarette, I think man, how I would like another. With all of its chemicals and nicotine in it that slowly kill me. That is the life I live right now. I plan on turning that around. How you may ask? Simple. QUIT. That is the easiest thing to say but the hardest thing to do. Nicotine is proven to be one of the most addictive substances you can get. That is why it is so hard for people to quit smoking.
There are a myriad of problems people experience while quitting smoking. Two of the most know problems are the nicotine addiction and the habit of having the cigarette in your hand. The reason you get addicted to nicotine is because it is a chemical that interacts with receptors in your brain. The nicotine slowly shuts down these receptors so your brain thinks you are actually getting less nicotine so it makes you smoke more. The reason I mentioned the habit of having a cigarette in your hand causes you to not want to quit is because after you do something so many times you get used to it so when it isn’t there anymore you feel lost without it.
The solutions to quitting smoking are numerous! One of the ones that you might think of first is quitting “cold turkey” which means quitting on the spot. That is not the right way to do it because if you have been smoking for an extended amount of time the withdraw symptoms are horrible. You get agitated easily, cold sweats, and a number of other symptoms. That is not how you want to quit. There are better ways to quit that allow you to keep smoking and slowly quit. The most obvious one is to go to a doctor. The doctor will most likely give you advice and tips on quitting or give you a prescription for a drug to help you quit. Another way to quit would be to go get hypnotized. I know it works because my dad did that exact thing when he wanted to quit. It works.
