It is not rare to see that people connect reading and writing together, like the author realized. They are just two different part of one thing. Something like wisdom and thought, reading is just one part which you accept, and writing is a part you expressed. There are no relationships to talk because they are exact one thing actually. No one can write anything without reading at all.
When it comes to quotation the author said, I do not think there have to be much quotations. Most of who would like to quote because they think it is easy to support and it is an interesting technique. I oppose that. To support a point by a quotation is not a wise choice. What is right or convictive? Something was proved. Quotation is just a person said even though what Barack Obama said. But when we need to get something to support our viewpoint we can use the quotation appropriate.
Then, about two different kinds of reading, as the author stated, normal reading will not help you much. That has to be argued. People were born to be unique because of thought. Little kids might not have that much thought, and we called that as innocence. However, everyone started to become thoughtful. Thought can be taught, from the Socrates viewing. Then, what taught us? Nothing more than listening and reading did, and this reading includes all kinds of reading. Also, thought is the most important element of writing. They all help us getting information and nurture our thought. If reading like a writer help us construct, then, normal reading make us thinking. We do not have to care much about what is the building’s structure, but we found how beautiful the building is. Thus, no matter what kind of reading, they will help much.
