Personality says a lot about a person, also extremely important to have certain styles when it comes to being a nurse. For one, you need to have the concern for others; being understanding toward your patient is extremely helpful. You need to be a dependable person; people are relying on you to be responsible with others and fulfilling obligations. Self control, as well as being stress tolerant, reassures that you can handle difficult situations and handle yourself. Being a nurse consists of a lot of changes with the work environment and hours, so being flexible and adaptable makes you look dedicated to your job. A good, smart personality makes you likable and could get you far in the nursing field. The working conditions for registered nurses are excellent! In most medical working environments, you’re in a well-lit surrounding which you can always count on being clean! Registered nurses job can sometimes require traveling to various job sites such as: schools, homes, community centers, and other locations. For working shifts; in a hospital or nursing home, around-the-clock hours are required. Working on nights, weekends, or holidays, is common. If you’re on call, you will have to be able to serve the needs of patients for at least twenty-four hours. If you work in an office or in public health, hours are more regular. (Sacks 38) Nursing has some hazardous effects. “In hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics, there is always a possibility that you have to care for persons with AIDS, hepatitis, or other infectious diseases.” (Sacks 38) Nurses always have to take the proper precautions; they need a “guard against the risk of radiation, or possible injury from exposure to anesthetics and chemicals used for sterilizing instruments.” (39)
