Harry Potter, Superman, Star Wars—all of these are stories which chronicle the ever-present warfare between good and evil. What exactly is good? How does one describe evil? The answers to these questions are highly subjective, and could be debated for years on end without ever reaching a final conclusion. However, it is widely agreed that each person is inherently born with two sides; one of which is good, the other evil. In Lord of the Flies, William Golding tried to shows the sense of inherent good and evil in all of us, through the three characters in the novel, which are Simon, Jack and Ralph, readers may know whether themselves are good or evil guy.

First of all, lets talk about Simon. He represents the inherent good in human being. He is the only one who helps the littluns the reach the fruits from the upper trees. “Good means the ability to empathise with other people, to feel compassion for them, and to put their needs before your own.” (Steven Taylor Ph.D.). He absolutely connects to role of ‘good’ according to the thing that he has done to the littluns, he would never refuse the others when they need his help. He also selflessly to run down the hill and tell the others that the truth of the beat even through he is injure, “Good means, if necessary, sacrificing your own well-being for the sake of others.” He again reaches the rule of goodness that he regardless his personal safety to bring the message to his friends. Certainly, he treats everybody nicely, he would never argue with someone, “A good person respects others, they may not agree with you, but they handle differences, respectfully.” For anyone who has read this book before, they will know that Simon is a polite boy, he is very courteous to others whoever they are. One time, when Ralph questioned him, he solves it in a peaceful way. These show that Simon an absolutely good guy whether from his inner or behavior.
