Respect within the Military basically means treat others as you would want to be treated. It is one of the basic Army Values. It is by far one of the most important values that we have. It is the one that keeps everyone acting polite and curiosities towards everyone. This is one of the NCO’s basic responsibilities to make sure that everyone has respect. This is something that everyone has to make sure that they are teaching everyone at an early time once they arrive into the unit. Even when a person first enters the Army they are taught the meaning of respect within the Military.
Respect is found in the same way as disrespect but for the sign of Respect is that the person shows you their upmost attention to every detail that is put out to the person. The verbal part of this is to only say the correct things to the person. For example when a Senior NCO talks to a lower enlisted. The lower enlist should always say the senior NCO’s rank after they told them something. For instance, a MSG asks a question to a group of PFC’s and SPC’s, one person should address the MSG with the correct greeting. They should start by saying his or her rank and then the response that is needed.
Respect is also known to be a two way street, but with this you will have to start off by showing the proper level of respect to the person that you are working with of working for. They always say that respect is a two way street. Most of the time, it always starts with the lower enlisted showing to the higher or more senior enlisted and even commissioned officers. This is for the fact that they have been in the Military for some time and they have worked to get to that point. Also the military almost runs like a family. With the way the ranking system is laid out, the higher rank you are the more the army or people around you treat as if you were a head of a house hold.
