Responsibilities as a head prefect

The only thing that varies a head prefect from a prefect is their duty scope. Other than handling disciplinary problem among the school students, a head prefect is also responsible in leading the entire prefectorial board. Leadership skills are very much needed for a head prefect. Firstly, once a head prefect in put on duty, he should start with planning strategies and duty schedules for the prefects. Nevertheless, weekly meetings with prefects and also faculty members must be held to discuss about problems or making new announcements.
A head prefect should always be alert and aware of the school environment. Head prefect does not wait problems to look for him, he should seek and identify problems among school prefects. Therefore, a head prefect must have understood everyone’s role and duty so that he’s always prepared in confronting prefects who failed in his duty. In fact, he should be able to communicate and co-operate well with prefects to achieve a unity in prefectorial board. Undeniable, commitment with teachers is also one of the important elements of holding the post as head prefect. He is in charge to discuss and find resolution for chaos occurred among prefects. In the mean time, he is the representative to seek help from teachers also delivering messages from teachers to prefects. Thus, a head prefect should be confident enough and has no doubt in voicing out dissatisfactions.
Being a role model of all prefects, the leader must behave and hold tight to his principle. Supervision is compulsory to understand how prefects are doing their job, and a head prefect must dare to advice or warn at certain circumstances. Nevertheless, he has to be self-controlled all the time and good at convincing people, not launching a war among prefects. Also, he should be self- reliance while encountering problems and difficulties. He must be able to stand strong and support the entire prefectorial board.
