Richard M. Nixon was born on January 9th 1913 in Yorba Linda, California. He grew up in California in poverty. He had a father Francis Anthony Nixon, whom he helped at his grocery store to earn money. He had a mother Hannah Milhous Nixon who was a devoted Quaker, he also had four brothers. Two of Nixon’s brothers died at an early age from a disease called Tuberculosis. It was devastating to the Nixon’s family to have to of their family members die so early in their lives. When he was a child Nixon was raised as a Quaker also. As a small child he went to public school. When he graduated high school, Nixon went to Whittier College from the years of 1930 through 1934. Nixon graduated there with a history degree. He then went to college a second time at Duke University Law School. He graduated from Duke in 1937. His goal in mind was to become a lawyer, and he did. What he didn’t know was that in 1969 he would become the 37th president of the USA. Boy was he in for a huge surprise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After college in 1938 Richard met Thelma Patricia Ryan. Two years later in 1940 the happy couple got married. As an adult Richard was a lawyer, in 1941 Nixon became assistant law attorney. Soon after the promotion Nixon’s legal career was interrupted by the service. He served briefly in the type- rationing section of the office of the Price Administration in Washington DC, before he could be in the military. World War II placed Nixon in the South Pacific serving as a Lieutenant Commander between the times of 1942 and 1946. Nixon’s career prior to being president was controversial. He was elected 18th congress in 1946, [also the year his oldest daughter Trisha was born] he served two terms. Nixon and his wife Thelma also had a second daughter named Julia in 1948.
Richard Nixon was the 37th president of the USA. He was the president from 1969-1974....
