Analytical and Critical Essay Romeo and Juliet By: Anna Su Shakespeare’s greatest romance tragedy Romeo and Juliet is the tale of two star cross`d lovers, recklessly choosing life changing decisions by their own will. The main cause is young Romeo and Juliet’s thoughtless actions brought upon their own tragedy yet they selfishly blamed their misfortune upon fate. Consequently the fatal series of events that lead to their deaths are all actions pressured by strong emotions, these hasty choices built up from one commotion to another and those brash choices they made shaped their future. Juliet is the headstrong daughter of Capulet she fell in love with Romeo. As a result Julietbegins the chain of events that lead to their calamity, with the idea proposed to Romeo about marriage. Juliet asks Romeo this because of her insecurities about how honest Romeo’s love really is. “If thy bent of love be honorable, thy purpose marriage send me word to-morrow, by one that I’ll procure to thee, where and what time thou wilt perform the right; and all my fortunes at thy foot I’ll lay, and follow thee my lord throughout the world” (Shakespeare, 1564-1616 p. 95) Juliet should not have challenged Romeo’s faith; Romeo acts with his heart before his head which results in many mistakes. Without thinking about consequences Romeo’s undying excitement of the idea of being married to Juliet drives him to set up the marriage the same day Juliet proposed of the idea. Therefore both of their thoughtless actions lead to the next chain event that pressures their emotions even further. Afterwards being wed to Juliet Romeo is banished for slaying Tybalt this hardship occurred because Romeo was so overjoyed from his marriage to Juliet he was completely unaware of Tybalt’s anger and aggressive nature.
