Safe Environment for schools
When you think of school, you think of a safe environment for students to learn and progress in their education for themselves and their future. When you think of guns, you think of danger and violence. Due to unfortunate events in America recently, putting guns into schools for protection has become an option for safety and to prevent school shootings. It is quite possible that increased safety procedures and personnel could be a solution. Frankly, it is not clear if guns on campus would be helpful in preventing school shootings or quite possibly become more of a problem for students, teachers and school districts. Requiring teachers to carry firearms on campus could cause more harm than good because of the many factors that could go wrong that would add to the growing violence at schools.
With all of the recent violence, why wouldn't you want to arm any teacher or professor? Who would want to repeat Sandy Hook and other tragedies? A solution for schools could be armed and trained safety officers or experienced, plain clothed security guards, who constantly move around the building so that no one knows where they may be at any time. They could communicate both with school officials and the outside world and not always the same old two guys in the same school. This would keep an air of mystery of who on campus is actually security. It would also be useful to have more cameras with sound (monitored in an outside place), as well as secure entrances, and a number of various safety procedures in place.
The reasons why teachers shouldn’t carry a gun is because it is simply not their job. A teacher’s job is to promote a safe environment to learn and concealed handguns would detract from that healthy, learning environment. In order to foster a healthy learning environment at America’s colleges...
