Sampling and Data Collection in Research
Research is imperative to human services, the success of an organization and furthering the education of human service workers and their profession. A human service worker that does research, not only improves their knowledge to help coworkers, but is also able to improve their clients in accomplishing their goals and their growth in life. When doing research, there are many ways an individual can accomplish this, but a couple are that of sampling and data collecting.
Sampling
Sampling is a way that human service workers conduct their research within the field. Sampling can be done with certain populations and gathering the information, depending on the research needed at that time. But first, you must recognize what population one is going to research and the process of obtaining the preferred sample. Sampling is one or two elements that have been composed, which is collected from the population one gathers the information from.
There are two types of sampling that can be used. The first being probability sampling which is described as achieving all the elements that have a chance of being included in the sampling. This is considered to be more of a random sampling, like spinning a wheel on a game board to see who will win. The way to conduct probability sampling is by doing research on the service a human service organization provides. An individual would take a list of the clients at the organization and select a name at random, to conduct the research on. One would then govern the research on the quality of service from the organization.
The second type of sampling is the nonprobability sampling. Nonprobability sampling is when the researcher is incapable of identifying the population and its elements that can be included in the sampling. An example of this type of sampling, is conducting research on...
