A Chinese philosopher once wrote, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” This is a quote that I live my life by. I plan on becoming a sports medicine physician. I know that it is going to take me a while to get where I want to be. I have already taken the first few steps of my journey with the help of my parents, teachers, and friends. I am prepared to see my journey through until I reach my final goal. This is why I am expressing my interest in the Dr. John R. Sharp Memorial Scholarship.
I plan to attend Southeast Missouri State University and major in biology. Upon graduation from SEMO, I hope to get accepted into medical school where I will further my studies to become a physician. I am from a small rural community and plan to one day have a medical practice in a community similar to where I grew up. I want to be able to help fill the need for physicians in rural communities. I believe that the educational foundation I will receive at SEMO will be beneficial as I continue my education and career.
Even though the career I have chosen will take many years to complete, I am more than ready to start that journey. I am a very dedicated person, and I work hard to achieve my goals. I always give 110% and strive for perfection. It is my philosophy that it is better to always do your best than to look back with regret that you could have done better. This scholarship would help ease the financial burden so I can focus on my educational goals.
