Student Objective:
The students will write analytical evaluation of a magazine advertisement identifying the logical fallacies and exploring the levels of denotation and connotation in a 1st person POV essay. Students will use MLA format for their layout, pagination, and the placement of name, class, etc. The essay will be typed, in 12-point font (preferably Times New Roman).
Structure:
Paragraph 1: This paragraph establishes the relationship between the target audience and the advertisement. The writer should establish the characteristics of the lifestyle, emotional state, and psychological framework of the target audience. What would the person think and feel upon seeing this advertisement? How would it be successful? Establish the ad in the context of the type of magazine where the ad exists (circulates).

Paragraph 2: This paragraph requires the student to use expository writing to establish the physical details of the advertisement (denotations) and distinguish between denotations and connotations. The students should be detailed in their descriptions using terminology like foreground, background, text, font, texture, color, size, and shape. Since it is a denotative paragraph, students should avoid using descriptive connotations like married, sexy, angry, etc. Instead, the students should describe the physical elements of the picture that suggest those connotations. This paragraph should be pretty long due to its complete and thorough description of the advertisement, the text, etc.

Paragraph 3-5: These paragraphs explore the various levels of connotation in the advertisement. The level i connotation is the link between the denotations and the connotations. Each paragraph and level of connotation should have references to individual meanings of the denotations of the ad.
