Abstract
In the following essay I will be explaining my personal opinion of if a sex offender can be “cured”. I will be also describing whether or not sex offender can be rehabilitated from their deviant behavior whether it is from jail, therapy or other treatments. I will back up my theories with examples and personal reasons. I will also me mentioning the article “Child Sex Offenders” by Katherine Ramsland.

One in every three girls and one in every seven boys is the United States will be sexually molested at least once in their lifetime Many people in society today do not think that our children are safe anymore; the harsh reality is they are not. Most children who are molested are hurt by someone they know; whether it be a family member, teacher, parent, and friend or in rare occasions a stranger. Not one person can ever understand the feeling of being violated in such a manner unless they personally went through that experience.
Children are not the only people that sex offenders target; in 2006 a reported 232,000 women were either raped or sexually assaulted; that’s 600 women a day as well as a small percentage of men. Adult sex offenders are prone to one of three motives: anger, power and sadism; while child sex offenders are at least one of four types: Regressed, Naïve, Fixated, and Mysopeds. Believe it or not there is a difference between a sex offender and a child molester. A sex offender can be related to a man who watches child porn but never acts on his urges and a child molester is one that actually sexually hurts a child. There are several different ways that a sex offender can be punished. Many believe they should rot in jail; while others think they need rehabilitation and counseling. Regardless, the United States has very strict laws on sec offenders, but is it enough?
