Sexual Harassment



Many organizations, schools, and businesses in our current time have a real problem with sexual harassment it is an ugly fact of life. Sexual harassment can be either from a man or of a man by a woman or even harassment between people of the same gender, and usually falls into one of three categories verbal sexual harassment, non-verbal sexual harassment, and physical sexual harassment. In any work environment a manager can put many prevention measures in place to help prevent any potential problems or even if a problem does occur with an early warning the manager can address the situation before it escalates.
Many times joking around with colleagues and even friends can be taken over the line, if these jokes turn into a constant form of verbal harassment a victim can report it as sexual harassment and it can become very hurtful process and affect a victim just as seriously as physical and no verbal harassment. Some everyday forms of verbal harassment that occurs in workplaces consist of: calling someone out of their name by using names of sexual nature, sexual statements, admiring a person’s clothing or demeanor in a sexual way, and questioning about a person’s sex life, fantasies, or past. There are many ways someone can avoid having to endure sexual harassment and in some cases the offender might not even know that they are sexually harassing someone so sometimes it is best to confront the harasser and ask them to politely stop and make clear to them that it makes you feel uncomfortable.
When anyone has become a victim to physical sexual harassment they often feel deprived of something they most likely will feel shameful and vulnerable in many other situations after the harassment has occurred. Physical harassment is very serious and in many cases dangerous and is outlawed in any work environment and claims of this nature should be reported immediately.
