Shadows of Gemmayze

Saturday night in Gemmayze, now that the dance is over, Goro Street is over exhausted, lights are vanishing, sounds are easing, and time is slipping away. Dawn is about to appear! As I was walking the first steps toward my parked car. I heard a glass crack! I turned toward the corner, and carefully approached her! Her ,who has an angelic face, threatened by grief and covered by dusty hair. Sitting in the corner with a bleeding hand… I saw the remains of the vodka bottle on the pavement. I gave her a tried to give her hand, talk to her, and even shake her!!! But it was too late…. Is it worth to sacrifice our youth potentials for few hours of pleasure??? Until when would the government stand still while our teen’s shadows are fading away in the corners of streets!!?
Usually people in villages during family gatherings, proudly offer their youngsters a shot of araq or wine without thinking the consequences. Their lack of awareness, together with the strong influence of social drinking is leading to the harassment of their children rights. The child and eventually the teen are mentally, physically, and psychologically incapable of taking the decision of inducing a drug into their bodies. The rules are usually set not only to protect us, but also to enable us to take the righteous decision. “There is no doubt that the law, which achieved full 50- state compliance in 1988, saved lives”. (SEAMAN, 2005).
Brain, liver, and the nervous system are the most infected organs by alcohol. Studies had shown that the older you get over your lifetime, the less damage alcohol affects your brain and body organs. Eventually alcohol will undermine growth development for teens and may lead to catastrophic and threatening ends. “The American Medical Association found that teen drinking- not bingeing, just drinking- can seriously damage growth process of the brain and that such damage” can be long term and irreversible”.
