I believe that the next technological advancement on a car will be for it to be able to store data to be able to drive itself. As we can see that there is a possibility for cars to do it now, we are far from it, I want to be a part of the team that takes the huge setup and compacts it to an unseen hidden camera and sensors around the car. The purpose of this would be to stop those who are incapable of driving yet still attempt to drive. Too many people are hurt by drivers under influences, and with this technology it would be possible for the car to actually drive itself home, following the rules of the road without causing harm to anyone. I am going for mechanical engineering, and would love to be a part of this team, along with wanting to take up a second major, Software engineering would definitely be the choice. I have had too many family members, friends, and acquaintances get hurt from drivers who weren't in the right state to be driving. The technology is there, we just have to use it and make it work for us.
Therefore, I would like to complete my engineering degree, to be able to help build something like this. Making a footprint in the world is everyone's goal however a footprint like this leaves an impression forever. As I have experimented in thought and the practicality about how this would actually function as a self driving car, I have used examples from many movies in my thought process. Watching BMW create a car that will actually park itself has increased my motives to want to be the first to build this vehicle. With my mechanical engineering degree, I can help design the model for the car, along with how it operates. Applying general knowledge to the car is great, but I would assemble a team involving software, electrical, and mechanical engineers to help design one of the best prototypes as a completely functioning show car for this product....
