Article Review 4

After reading this insightful article, “The Shoemaker and the Revolution” I believe the purpose for this article was to describe the effect of the revolution had on the colonists. I say this because; the story told how a man changed from British ideals to American in a short amount of time. I also believe the reason for writing of this article was to show, that people from the Revolution changed their outlooks on independence and the crown.
The thesis of the author’s article was a shoemaker by the name of George Hewes meet John Hancock on New Year’s Eve. Over the course of the revolution and with more British soldiers coming Hewes becomes more and more defiant towards the crown. This article is about the stories foretold by a patriot in the quest for independence. The main contentions were the struggle with British ruling and how they were being strangled by them. Also how defiance was there only option in their minds. The quotes the quotes would be meant for explanations on the topic he was stating. They also give us insight into the lifestyle these people as well. This brings me to my summary, with revolution on the horizon a young shoemaker by the name of George Hewes would become a vital role in the revolution. He was there during the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party and the tarring and feathering of John Malcom. Over this time he gained defiance towards the crown and learned to be strong willed and to be most of all an individual.
The article the author had written helped me understand a side of perspective I hadn’t heard from yet the peoples. I have had yet to have from a patriot of this stature. This definitely has given me new insight on the colonist’s point of view.
In conclusion, I now have a grasp of who they were and what they did. I believe the articles strengths were in its language, it put the story in an easy-to-read style of righting that anyone somewhat educated could understand, also it was...
