SIP Based Trunks
SIP Trunking is a new product in the VOIP industry that offers many benefits to small and medium businesses. It can reduce or even eliminate the costs associated with the purchase of hardware media gateways. SIP Trunks are provided over the same circuit used for data/internet reducing costs of carrier services. It reduces toll charges from SIP origination/termination services to the PSTN for external long distance and local access calls. SIP utilizes bandwidth more efficiently and supports multiple forms of communication (including video and instant messaging).
.The productivity benefits with SIP and SIP trunking are also significant. By extending the SIP capabilities of the corporate network outside the LAN, satellite offices, remote workers and even customers can use VoIP and other forms of realtime communications applications to break down barriers of geography to share ideas and increase productivity.
Similar to ISDN.PRI dedicated service, SIP offers DID's (Direct Inward Dialing) that allows every extension on your system a unique phone number. This allows better call control and simplified dial plans. SIP Trunking is an improvement over legacy VOIP solutions because each trunk is a dedicated channel. Finally, SIP simplifies adding, subtracting and changing lines. Like any application that opens the network to the Internet, SIP trunking deployments have security considerations, but there are ways to maximize enterprise security. One of the most effective techniques is to address SIP security the same way data security is addressed - at the enterprise edge. SIP server and SIP proxy technologies offer maximum control over the flow of SIP traffic, enabling the administrator to ensure correct routing, apply verification and authentication policies and mitigate Denial-of-Service attacks.
Unlike in traditional telephony, where bundles of physical wires were once delivered from the service provider to a business, a SIP trunk allows a company...
