I stand in affirmation of the following:
Resolved: The U.S. should issue guest workers visas to illegal aliens.
Visa- An endorsement on a passport indicating that the holder is allowed to enter, leave, or stay for a special period of time in a country.
Illegal immigrants are not terrorists. They want to come legally to do the jobs Americans don’t want, but our broken immigration system doesn’t allow that to happen. If there were legal channels for the immigrants to use, the government could concentrate on identifying the real terrorists. Instead, the government is wasting money and manpower trying to keep out the immigrant workers the U.S. economy needs.
First and foremost, illegal immigration is a source of value added. The total goods and services that they consume through their paycheck plus all that they produce for their employers, is close to about to about 800 billion dollars. They’re also producing at relatively lower costs because the undocumented population typically gets about 20 percent less in wages than if they were legalized. That leads to lower prices for us and higher profits to employers. In addition, they’re obviously a huge consumer base. We’ve seen that 90 percent of the wages that the undocumented population gets are spent inside the U.S. Remittances are sent abroad, but that only represents about 10 percent of immigrants income. The numbers are becoming quire huge. We estimate about 50 billion dollars in remittances this year. That means that the total consumptive capacity remaining in the U.S. is 400 billion dollars to 450 billion dollars. If you took away the undocumented population, it would be the worst economic disaster in the history of the U.S.
Therefore, you must vote in affirmation of this speech.
