How can soccer be effectively promoted in the United States to give it more status as a major sport?
Here in the United States of America, there are a lot of major sports we adore, idolize, and watch on television. These such sports include professional football (NFL), professional baseball (MLB), and also professional basketball (NBA) as the top sports here in the United States of America. Here in America, for some reason, we do not give soccer, also known as futbol in other countries, a fighting chance to be a top major sport in our country. There are reasons why it is not a major sport and one of them being the promoting and marketing around soccer in our country being very poor in a lot of cases. This proposal and solution will outline how we can promote and market soccer here in the United States in a successful and productive way.
The first proposal and solution is to show more focus on the top European leagues. We do have Major League Soccer here in the United states, also known as MLS, but it does not show the true and raw talent like the European Leagues do with players like Messi and Ronaldo. When watching sports as spectators and Americans we love to see the best teams and players in action competing against each other in professional baseball, football, and basketball. This is what draws us to that certain sport and we love it. Would you rather watch a D-league game in semi-pro basketball or the Miami Heat with Lebron James versus the San Antonio Spurs and Tim Duncan? Exactly, you would rather watch the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs game because it is much more exciting than the lower level professional teams. The point I am getting at is the top European Leagues like the Premier League and La Liga has much more exciting teams and players than Major League Soccer (MLS) here in the United States.
