PSYC 100
Maslow states that “lower level needs must be met before the individual is motivated to pursue higher level needs.” My theory is that this is not always the case – in particular, that safety needs do not necessary have to be fulfilled in order to have good social relationships (a component of belongingness and love).
Hypothesis
An individual that lacks a shelter can report having better social relationships than an individual that has a shelter
Study Type
Cross Sectional Study (with a correlational design)
Studies 2 groups of people at the same time: ones with a shelter and one without
Studies if there is a correlation between having a shelter and having social relationship
Research approach:
Data Collection Method
Self Report Method (close-ended questions)
Variables:
Independent variable: Presence of shelter*
Dependent Variable: Social relationships*
Control Variables: Age, Origin, Location, Physiological needs fulfillment level
Population
30-35 year old Canadians living in Montreal
Sample

For both sample groups, pick the individuals randomly (without basing who you choose on any additional information other than age, origin, location and availability of shelter) to make sure there is no selection bias
Provide both with the same survey that will...
