Sociology Norms and Deviant Behavior

The topic of my short sociology paper is on the accepted “norms” of our culture. What can “norms” be defined as? The do’s and don’ts what is accepted and what is unacceptable. Who has the power to tell us this? Our parents from birth teach us what they think is right and wrong based on how they grew up, and where they grew up. The government even has a big influence in the media, like how there was racism after 9/11.

The book “In Defense of Food” is a great example of how the government influences our “norms” even in what we eat. This book is great it’s like an eye opener I am surprised and disgusted sometimes while reading it, I have met many people that are anti government and believe in a whole bunch of conspiracies and now I understand why. For the most part I keep myself busy and try not to let outside distractions get in my way I don’t pay too much attention to the government and what there doing, but it looks like it is a pretty corrupt regime so far taking advantage of people that don’t know any better. I am strongly against that and people taking advantage of other people, if it ever happens in front of me I always have to say something I cant just let someone get taken advantage of for some reason. My parents have the strongest influence on me and my brother for some odd reason looks up to me. I was taught to always be respectful humble and nice to other people. My mother works two jobs so her working hard just gives me an incentive to be very successful so that she won’t have to work so hard. I really respect her and what she has been doing for my family since I was born, no matter the situation she never changes she is very straight edge which is hilarious because my father is quite the opposite. I have a good balance of knowing what’s right and wrong and I use it to my advantage my father is more street smart and my mother is more by the book, because of their differences I am very good at looking at different situations from different points of...
