The Sense of Self-Worth
No matter how low our self-esteem is, we all need to have more self-worth. We should stand up for ourselves in whatever situation, such as bullying, being wronged or getting cheated out of your money. Women are not as weak as men think so have some self-worth and be more confident in yourself. Parents, know your own importance to your children. However headstrong your child is, remember your importance and through your children, higher your self-worth. We should think better of ourselves and have some more self-worth.
The Veldt by Ray Bradbury inspires parents to understand how important they are to their children’s growth. Children can become twisted and warped without their parent’s guidance, who have gone through more in life. In The Veldt, the featured family had a very high-tech house. The parents, George and Lydia, left the ‘parenting’ of their children, Peter and Wendy, to the house. They had a nursery which created a simulation of whatever the children wanted. Many times, when the parents were in the nursery, the simulation was of Africa with hungry lions hunting. In the end, they were devoured themselves by the lions due to Peter and Wendy’s corrupted minds. However contumacious your children are, know your significance towards them. Even if you are strict and afraid that your children will hate you, know that it is for their own good. In The Veldt, when George and Lydia announced to the children that they were going to shut down the nursery, Wendy and Peter begged to be let in once more. Though George and Lydia knew that they shouldn't, they still let Wendy and Peter go ‘one last time’. By letting their children control them proves how little self-worth they have and as a consequence, George and Lydia were devoured. Foreshadowing was the literary device that was used in The Veldt.
