 As we come down to the wire of the NBA season, we’ve had our fair share of surprises. The Atlanta Hawks going from pretender to contender status, OKC still having a shot at the playoffs with their two stars missing a combined 48 games, or the most players being dealt at the deadline in league history with 43 players switching uniforms. However, the most compelling storyline may remain to be the conversation for this season’s MVP with names like Durant and Lebron not headlining this category.
To get a better understanding of who’s in the running, let’s start by listing them.
Stephen Curry, PG, Golden State Warriors: Each time he takes the floor, he has everybody glued to their tvs because there’s no telling what he’ll do next, leading the Warriors to the NBA’s best record (46-12). His offensive game appears flawless; being able to create a shot wherever he wants on the floor with his array of dribble moves, hesitations, and shot fakes. He’s averaging 23.9 ppg, 4.5 reb, and 7.8 assists. But it’s on the defensive end where he’s put himself into serious contention for the award. When being defended by Curry, opponents are only shooting 43.2% from the field, and averaging the most steals in the association at 2.1. With stats like these, its hard to argue there’s anybody else who could challenge him.
